3-Month Ramp Closure Begins Next Week

Construction crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will close the A Street on-ramp to northbound Interstate 705/Interstate 5 at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 2, for stormwater pond excavation work as part of the I-5 - M Street to Portland Avenue – HOV

The ramp closure will be in place around the clock until December, and a signed detour will be provided for motorists.

Additional overnight lane and ramp closures will also take place next week on I-5, I-705 and State Route 7 as crews finish creating a protected work area.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, crews will close the left lane and shoulder of northbound I-5 near M Street. The lane closure will be in place overnight until 5 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The I-705 and State Route 7 on-ramps to northbound I-5 will close overnight from 11 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, until 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4. The two right northbound I-5 lanes will also close between M Street and Portland Avenue for the same hours.

Three lanes of southbound I-5, plus the Portland Avenue on-ramp and I-705 and SR 7 off-ramps, will close overnight beginning at 11 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 until 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5. The closures will allow crews to remove and replace pavement markings.

As a reminder, southbound I-5 between Yakima Street and State Route 16 is reduced from four to three general-purpose lanes around the clock for approximately six weeks. Crews have closed the left lane so the median can be rebuilt to carry traffic through the area during future traffic shifts.
